Mponeng Gold Mine, South Africa - The World's Deepest Mine

The Mponeng gold mine is located approximately 65km west of Johannesburg in South Africa. Image courtesy of Andres de Wet. Mponeng is currently the world's deepest operating mine. The Mponeng mine produced 244,000 ounces (oz) of gold in 2019 and is expected to be in operation at least until 2027.
