The unit weight is a useful tool in determining the concrete batch yield and air content. Since air adds no weight to the concrete and only occupies a volume, the unit weight of the concrete gives a very good indication of the air content of the concrete. Normal weight concrete is in the range of 140 - 150 lbs./cu. ft.

Ver artículoThe unit weight is determined by the formula below. Subtract the weight of the measuring base from the combined weight of the measuring base and the concrete it contains. Next, divide this weight (in pounds) by the volume of the measuring base (cubic feet) to obtain the density expressed as lb/ft 3:

Ver artículoThe 2006 edition of ASTM C 90 included slightly reduced minimum face shell thickness requirements for concrete masonry units 10 in. (254 mm) and greater in width. These smaller face shells result in slightly lower calculated wall weights for 10, 12-, 14- and 16-in. (254-, 305-, 356-, and 406-mm) units.

Ver artículoDec 17, 2020· The unit weight of a material is very important in calculating the self-weight of the material, especially when evaluating the permanent actions in a structure. Without the knowledge of the unit weight of a material, it will be impossible to accurately estimate the bodyweight and the load it subsequently carries when used as a structural member.
